Summary: The objective of this dissertation is to analyze the difficulty that human beings have to
build their self and to become themselves, this was exposed by Kierkegaard, who,
through Anti-Climacus, his last pseudonym, makes deep reflections on the issue in
the work The Sickness Unto Death, 1849. From the anthropological definition of man
as spirit and the spirit, the self, the author uses, the concept of desparation to
demonstrate how difficult it is to navigate the dialectic of self and realize the dificult
task of becoming himself and thus achieving self-awareness. As long as a person is
born human, but not born with the already built self, it is a must to realize the
synthesis that is the self, within another synthesis that is to be human, because it is
constituted by opposite elements: infinity and finitude, temporality and eternity,
necessity and possibility, which must be related in a balanced way. Thus, this study
aims to address the first part of this work to understand the problem that it is for the
self to execute the process of edification to become itself, a singular individual, who
is aware of the freedom and responsibility that has for its existence and established
relationships.
